Rè della Musica Soul Americana conosciuto anche
con svariati soprannomi come; "Soul Brother
Number One","Mr. Dynamite", "The Hardest-Working
Man in Show Business", "Minister of The New New
Super Heavy Funk", "Mr. Please Please Please",
"Universal James","The King of R&B", e il più
noto di tutti, "The Godfather of Soul", (Il
Padrino Del Soul). Riconosciuto come una delle
più importanti figure della musica del XX secolo
e un pioniere nell'evoluzione della musica
Gospel, Rhythm and Blues e Soul Funk.
James Brown, che si era autodefinito "Il
Padrino del Soul", è stato per decenni la stella
della musica nera Americana, incoraggiando la
rivalità tra Prince e Michael Jackson, da lui
considerati suoi successori. Negli anni ottanta
era anche divenuto un volto cinematografico,
interpretando il ruolo del
Predicatore nei
"Blues Brothers",
successivamente appare nel film Rocky IV
cantando una delle sue canzoni più note
"Living in
America".
James Brown ha fatto scuola anche sul
palcoscenico, con la sua fisicità dirompente,
influenzando tantissimi artisti, tra i più noti
"Mick Jagger" e "Iggy Pop". Alle spalle ha avuto
un’infanzia difficile: nato da una famiglia
poverissima della Carolina del Sud nel 1933, a
sei anni viveva in un bordello ad Augusta,
Georgia, e per pagarsi l'affitto lavorava come
lustrascarpe e nelle piantagioni di cotone. A
otto anni provava a rubare un auto, e finisce in
un riformatorio, e qui che avviene la svolta
della sua vita,
conosce "Bobby Byrd" ed entra nel suo gruppo di
Gospel,
 e nel 1952, forma la sua prima Band "The Flames". Nel 1956 scrive
"Please,
Please, Please" ed è il successo mondiale,
consacrato nel 1961 con la registrazione dal
vivo nel tempio della musica nera "L’Apollo Theatre" ad Harlem, l'album è diventato un vero
e proprio culto, con canzoni come
"I Got You
(I Feel Good)" e
"Get up (I
feel Like Being a Sex Machine)". Capace di
suonare per 350 serate all’anno
James Brown si trasforma, con la ricchezza
acquisita,
in un esempio di "Capitalismo Nero", ben prima
che il termine fosse inventato; apre ristoranti
e negozi ed esorta i suoi concittadini di colore
a vivere il "Sogno Americano". Il giorno
dell’assassinio di "Martin Luther King", tiene
un concerto teletrasmesso,
 invitando
la popolazione alla calma. Il presidente "Lyndon
Johnson" lo ringrazierà per questo.
James Brown è scomparso a 73 anni ad Atlanta
per una polmonite acuta il 25 Dicembre 2006,
migliaia di persone hanno fatto lunghe file per
accedere all'interno dell’Apollo Theatre ad
Harlem, allestito per dare l'ultimo saluto al Rè
Del Soul, tantissimi artisti primo fra tutti
il compianto
Michael Jackson hanno reso omaggio ad un
personaggio che ha lasciato una traccia
indelebile nei cuori di tutti coloro che ancora
oggi traggono energia positiva da tutto quello
che in vita ci ha donato, il suo immenso
patrimonio artistico!! Tra tutte le raccolte di
successi di JB, sicuramente la più completa è
questa, che contiene 4 CD con più di 5 ore di
Musica, 72 canzoni, e un Book che racconta la
sua storia. Questo cofanetto, non può mancare
nella personale discografia di tutti coloro che
amano la musica Soul Funk e in particolare il
Mito e la Leggenda di
James Brown "The Godfather of Soul" !!
